On Sunday 10th of July our planting group braved the grey and wet morning to tend to the raised flowerbeds on Chingford Mount. Despite the weather, we all find it really encouraging and uplifting to see how things have changed for the better since we first started and thoroughly enjoy doing it. We are now working on plans to replace the bedding plants with a more permanent planting scheme later on in the season. However, even the most drought resistant plants need to be watered regularly to begin with before they find their feet. Luckily, some of our shopkeepers and restaurant owners have stepped up and taken on this task without even being asked, which is fantastic. For instance, there is Lily from the Euro Food Shop (see picture), who is watering two of the raised beds near her shop and what an amazing difference it makes – thank you Lily! The other photo shows one of the beds outside Boots and Poundland… hmm, the large chain stores clearly have more pressing things to do than to worry about what their outside area looks like! In short, we are now looking into ways of getting a regular (grey) water supply before we’ll move on, but one thing is certain: move on we will!
